Getting out of the Glasgow bubble and playing shows beyond Scotland is an important step for up-and-coming bands. Having completed more than one European DIY tour, UNITED FRUIT are growing into their early promise that landed them on the cover of The Skinny.
As someone who has seen UNITED FRUIT close to ten times, and who would dearly love to see them do well, it’s only fair to point out that they’ve been playing the same songs for awhile now. As with a lot of tipped bands, there’s a collection of songs that were written together at a certain time that continue to make up the bulk of their set.
The only way to overcome this obstacle is to completely stop playing them, go cold turkey, and push on into new ideas. The safety of playing crowd favourites at local level has to be abandoned if you’re going to evolve. I’m not saying take it to extremes and disappear for two years at a time but be brave. Win new people over with all new songs.
Which is what we can hope for from their upcoming shows with ROBOT ORCHESTRA + VERSE METRICS.
