Norman Records Big Summer Sale: 20% off

deerhoof-milkmanIndie store NormanRecords.com have their Summer Sale on right now. That’s 20% off a “very big load of stuff!” A George Carlin reference follows. Can’t promise that it’s relevant mind you.

{deep breath}

MP3s. Napster. Fucking Metallica. Soulseek. Limewire. Illegal downloads. Torrents. P2P. “Labels make all the money anyway”.

iPods. iPhones. iPads. iTunes. Apple take a disproportionate slice. Distributors take a slice. Labels get what’s left. Artists get their agreed cut from a pie they owned but traded for EXPOSURE.

Record shops close. Indie labels close, or become more commercial-minded, or become semi-active. Record Store Days. Crowdfunding campaigns.

Everyone wants to run a streaming service like Spotify now because they want your data. Data is the new oil. You give it away too cheaply for “free” services that in return create gigantic databases worth $$$.

And of course with a smartphone in every pocket they can track your ass with GPS!

{bows}

That was my best improvised George Carlin impersonation. You cool kids probably know all about him but if you don’t, click the link on his name and watch the clip. This post will still be here when you come back.

Back already? Alrighty. Music in digital form is all fine and dandy and those of you who still buy records are a dying breed.

If you’re a fully paid up member of the ‘hey, I still buy records!’ club then you’ll be pleased to hear that indie store NormanRecords.com have their Summer Sale on right now. That’s 20% off a “very big load of stuff!”

I’ve looked through the list and there’s lots to pick from. Go check it out. And no, there is no relevant reason why I picked the deerhoof cover other than I enjoy it…AND OH WAIT…IT’S ON SALE.
