Must See Upcoming Gigs (Feb) in Glasgow & Dundee

football-etc-150pxPop! South, Cry Parrot, TYCI collective, and GW/Rusty Hip collective have organised shows in February for those of us fed up of mainstream dross. Here’s a quick preview!

Several leftfield and rawk-tacular gigs are coming your way in Spring. They’ve been added to the ‘must see’ section of this blog. I’d be lying if I said they’re purely listed for your benefit. They’re actually there to remind me to go along if I’m free. To be fair, this blog exists mostly for my benefit anyway. If any of you fancy going along too that’s just a bonus. Re-reading this opening paragraph I’m not entirely convinced of the tone either but I feel like an elephant stood on my chest today. Bloody asthma.

First up we have the Pop! South gang putting on a day and a half worth of artists at the Glad Cafe in Shawlands, Glasgow on Feb 8th & 9th. Tickets are already selling fast and you’ll need to move sharpish to get yours. Full line-up and details are available over on their Facebook event page. Podcast guests of late The Stranger’s Almanac play on the Sunday – the acoustic day – while my faves The Yawns are part of Saturday’s excellent line-up. You’d be bonkers to miss it.

Glasgow promoter Cry Parrot continues to bring the weird and wonderful to the DCA in Dundee in 2014. If you’ve yet to make any Feb 14th Valentines plans and wish to avoid the predictable, £5 at 7.30pm will get you entry to performances by Cam Deas, with support from Usurper. DCA gig page blurb reads: Based in London, Cam Deas manipulates and processes 12 string acoustic guitar through a series of analogue synthesis patches to create dense sonic environments. Programmed by Cry Parrot with support from PRS New Music Plus.

As mentioned in yesterday’s blogpost, the TYCI collective have a live event happening at Glasgow’s Bar Bloc on Feb 15th from 11pm. Two acts are playing with a live set from Manchester electro outfit Letters To Fiesta and SOPHIE ELLIS-DECKSTAR (Sophie Galpin from PINS!) on the DJ decks.

At this point you should have your phone out and be typing in event reminders. C’mon! Don’t make me hack into your Google account and do it for you. Again.

Outside of the DCA, Dundee’s art and music community continues to work together to put on cool shows. Arts space TIN ROOF is hosting a gig on Feb 21st organised by GW/Rusty Hip Collective. Those guys are single-handedly making Dundee’s music scene vital again. Four bands will be playing - Football etc, Papermoons, Bonehouse, The Sinking Feeling. All the gig details and more can be found over on the Facebook event page. Football, etc. sound brilliant if their bandcamp tracks are anything to go by. Expect this one to be busy!

Not content with that bill? GW/Rusty Hip have another gig on in Dundee the following night at Kage Nightclub. The bill on Feb 22nd comprises of Break Character, Kaddish, The Shithawks, Gone Wishing. Details can be found here.

That’s five fantastic live events for your calendar. Have fun!
