Louise Rutkowski Releases Diary of a Lost Girl

louise_rutkowski_diary_of_a_lost_girl-150pxSUNSET GUN, THIS MORTAL COIL, THE HOPE BLISTER and THE KINDNESS OF STRANGERS have all featured Louise Rutkowski’s vocals over the years. Better known for those releases on 4AD, the Glasgow based singer’s solo album ‘Diary of a Lost Girl’ is set for release on February 21st.

Having the petpiranha email address prominently displayed on the homepage is an experiment. If I start receiving too much dross then it’ll disappear quicker than Everton’s defence in a derby game. One of the first PR emails to arrive comes on behalf of Louise Rutkowski. No, the name didn’t ring a bell with me either. After a few minutes listening to her forthcoming album on Soundcloud I had it earmarked as a possible blog piece. The one you are now reading.

This is the kind of record that would go very well in your collection if it already has Camera Obscura and Scottish indie’s more highbrow aristocrats. Just when you’re about to go all judgemental and declare it nothing more than Dido-esque warbling, it catches you off-guard with an incredibly nuanced pop moment. This is a very refined record. It’s a Hannibal Season 2 dinner party background record while the guests chow down on the exquisitely cooked human offering without suspecting a thing. At least that’s how I would use it for my guests.
