Billed as “Scotland’s Leading Creative Industries Festival”, goNORTH has been championing Scottish music for many years.
Today goNORTH 2013 announced the list of acts invited to this year’s showcase.
Although it’s been quite a few years since I actively attended goNORTH events, my intention was to go to both days this year in Inverness. Especially when you look at the lineup of talented artists involved. THE YAWNS, FAT GOTH, and GARDEN OF ELKS are just three of the selected bands I’d love to see at it.
There’s always going to be opinions flying around on the subject of omissions so here’s mine: MAN WITHOUT MACHINES (!) If there’s a better electro-pop band kicking around Scotland just now who have better song crafting abilities, then I’ve yet to hear them. Speaking of electro, ROMAN NOSE was a safe bet. I’d half expect that act to be headlining the Slam Tent at T in the not too distant future.
The great thing about having non-existent hipster cred means I can freely admit to not being familiar with every act on the announced list. As I write this, I’m catching up on those bands that I’m semi-familiar with like VASQUEZ and enjoying their sounds on bandcamp. Highly recommended.

One bone of contention is that the first night of the showcases clashes with one of the tastiest gigs of the year in Glasgow, namely Mudhoney, Meat Puppets, and METZ at O2 ABC on June 5th. Yes they are all on the same bill. Nuts isn’t it? METZ are just too brilliant to miss and I’ve already bought tickets.
Depending on who’s playing in Inverness the following night, I might just have to make the pilgrimage this year. Are you coming?
