Debut 7″ out on Moshi Moshi Records. Wickerman Festival appearance lined up. Glasgow band CASUAL SEX are a scenester’s wet dream. The good news is they’ve at least one song I like more than the single “Stroh 80″. Ah, the giddy heights of peer approval.
Being nearly 10pm as I begin to write this means that it’s been a very long work day. Yes, I’m getting my excuses in early for whatever quality of writing somehow manages to crawl over my keyboard and appear in front of your eyes in the form of words. Words about a Glasgow band called CASUAL SEX.
Today’s bulletin from The Skinny reminded me of their existence. The announcement that Casual Sex is to play the goNORTH stage at this Summer’s Wickerman festival set off my curiosity.
As an unhealthy number of my Facebook friends are either in bands or in some way part of some music scene somewhere in the land of some, looking at a band’s Facebook page tells me plenty. When it comes to ubercool Glasgow bands, Roz from Miss The Occupier is often there in the ‘friends who like’ section. Which tells me this band Casual Sex must be at least half-decent.
SOUNDS LIKE X OR Y WITH B
If you play in a band you have to expect how you’re described to be inaccurate on a consistent basis. The sounds like X or Y crossed with B formula should be familiar to anyone who has read anything ever about a band. Especially live reviews. I’ll let CASUAL SEX and their friends explain.

Listening to tracks on Soundcloud, it’s easy enough to hear -isms that would put a music writer in mind of those bands.
If you put a gun to my head and asked me the same question I’d have to say Casual Sex conjure up the idea of David Bowie fronting Les Savy Fav who’ve just taken downers. There, is that suitably inaccurate for you?
This track “New Guts” is one you can fall in love with. Two thumbs up.
The other tracks on their Soundcloud page vary between OK and one and a half thumbs. That’s more thumbs than most.
