Dot Dash – Another Take On Credible Guitar Pop

dot-dash-band-150pxToday’s blogpost contains an unnecessary use of an asterisk, a confusing dEUS reference and a free download of a track I’d skip over myself. Bear with me.

The email says Dot Dash is from Washington D.C. — ex-members of Julie Ocean, The Saturday People (Slumberland label), Swervedriver, St. Christopher, etc.

Should you listen to this band? Yes*

A quick search and I’ve found a piece on them over on the louderthanwar.com website. Listening to their most recent album does not put me in mind of a post-punk band. Maybe their early stuff was noisy and angular, I dunno. This isn’t either of those things. Polished, credible guitar pop is what this is.

Solid without being remarkable, a glimpse at what dEUS lacking imagination might sound like. That sounds harsh and I don’t mean that necessarily as a bad thing even though that’s what it suggests. Those of you bothered about scores can rest easy in the knowledge that it’s a solid 7/10 effort. Of course we all know scores are stupid.

*if you lean more towards Pitchfork and NME than rock and metal then this might be right up your street. It walks a fine line, that’s all I’m saying. If I play it between Boards of Canada and Kvelertak it runs the risk of sounding a bit middle of the road. But then so would plenty of other artists.

Have a listen and decide for yourself. There’s a free download available on their bandcamp page if you’re so inclined although it’s not one of the better album tracks. Start at track nine and go from there. In fact, I’ve posted that one as the video below. Check it out.
