More critically acclaimed artistry returns to the airwaves courtesy of Scotland’s Camera Obscura. If you haven’t heard them recently on BBC Radio 2 in live sessions, or as part of the 6Music playlist, you can get your hands on the new album “Desire Lines” from June 3rd from 4AD records.

A band with over 123,000 likes on Facebook isn’t exactly short of exposure. Writing about Camera Obscura is hardly shining a light on an undiscovered gem. If you looked up the dictionary definition of coffee table records, this is a band who could own the genre. But fear ye not! Somehow I doubt we’re slipping into Patrick Bateman territory here. Glad I corrected that typo, Jason Bateman territory would have been even more confusing.

Camera Obscura is one of those bands that I don’t listen to as much as I should. It’s like they occupy a blind spot. Some bands are like that. Trouble is, even critically acclaimed bands need people to actually buy their music. If only for the encouragement if nothing else. Bands can say what they like but if, for the sake of argument, Mogwai’s next brilliant record achieved zero sales, I’m sure the band members would scratch their heads.

“Desire Lines” can be pre-ordered on iTunes now, with CDs/LPs available to pre-order from Norman Records.
