10 “Woah” Songs You Could Listen To That Aren’t Bon Jovi

bonjovi-150pxBon Jovi are playing Hampden Park, Glasgow tonight as I write this. Given that they don’t play Livin’ On A Prayer until the encore, here are your options. Kudos to Andy Temple and Douglas Greenshields for the help in creating the playlist.

The idea for tonight’s post was all my own creation. I suspected however that somebody else was bound to have done this already. Sure enough they had…6 days ago! FFS. Maybe Bon Jovi being on tour has triggered this collective notion. Fuck it. I reckon my list is waaaay better. But I’ll let you be the judge of that. Even though I’m totally right.

Here’s the list from sabotagetimes.com: 10 Brilliant Songs That Go…Woah Oh Oh

The main problem with their selection is that it contains Bon Jovi, thereby defeating the purpose of creating 10 “Woah” Songs You Could Listen To That Aren’t Bon Jovi. For that reason alone, you’d have to agree that this selection is superior.

1. Whoa on the Whoas – NOFX. You couldn’t create a list like this without having it as track one. Otherwise the universe would implode and cause a black hole.

2. Kids in America – The Muffs. A cover of Kim Wilde’s original and a punk cover classic.

3. Waking Up – Elastica. It’s slightly more subtle but there are woahs in there. Trust me. And it’s still a great tune.

4. Mrs. Robsinson – Lemonheads. Another cover, this time it’s the Lemonheads cover of the Simon and Garfunkel hit.

5. Destined for Nothing – Bad Religion. Resident Punk Rock Expert™ Andy Temple made this excellent suggestion.

6. Hash Pipe – Weezer. How any list could leave this out baffles me. It’s so obvious. And it rocks!

7. Sweetness – Jimmy Eat World. Not only is it a fantastic example of woahs, it’s poptastic.

8. Hatebreeders – Misfits. Cracking choice again from Mr. Temple although you’ll need to crank up the volume due to today’s loudness wars in mastering rooms.

9. One Vision – Queen. Clever, surprising and brilliant choice. Resident pub quiz guru Douglas Greenshields, take a bow.

10. Through the Fire and Flame – Dragonforce. What else would you expect for a closing Top 10 list? Woahs AND epic guitar solos. Tasty!
