X-Files Season 10 in Comicbook Form

xfiles-season10-comicsComics and graphic novels may not be appreciated by everyone in a world where celebrity hardbacks leer out from supermarket book shelves. These carefully crafted visual stories won’t impress anyone in my Goodreads book list. And not a fuck was given. There’s something paranormal brewing.

“…However, the Smoking Man orders that Mulder be left alive, unless they want to risk “turning one man’s religion into a crusade”.

Write about something you’re genuinely interested in and the words flow. On this Sunday evening of the 18th of August 2013 I’m taking a detour from writing about music. You know me, I love a good tangent. The Edinburgh Fringe festival has more art on display than you could shake a stick at. Am I previewing any of that? Hell no. Not when every other word written this month has covered all that to death.

I will say this though. I am INSANELY jealous of anyone going to hear Breaking Bad creator and X-files writer Vince Gilligan speak this week at an Edinburgh TV Festival event hosted by Charlie Screenwipe Brooker. That’s one amazing ticket to have. Watching the final episodes of Breaking Bad is a masterclass in television writing, acting and directing.

Vince Gilligan was responsible for some of the finest X-files episodes written so I got into Breaking Bad early knowing there was every chance it’d be great.

You have to cast your mind back to the 90s to remember that before U.S. cable revolutionised TV as we know it, there was a network TV show that changed the rules. That show was called The X-Files.

Fast forward to today and the show’s creator Chris Carter has provided input into a new comicbook series that continues on from where the show left off. Issue #3 will land inside my door any day now and the first two have been a lot of fun to read. All the fan favourites are showing up and the character dialogue is word perfect. Yeah, I’m biased but I also hated both X-Files movies as they’re beyond awful. If Season 10 looked shaky I’d be the first to say so. Thankfully it’s holding up well in the early ‘episodes’.

Even Flukeman is making an appearance in Season 10. As Cancer Man once said… nothing disappears without a trace.

Maybe that goes too for Heisenberg?
